We have a big travel day ahead of us today, but this morning we just couldn’t get out of bed! Sure, we have a 4-hour drive ahead of us to Monteverde, but to be honest we had every intention of checking-out of our room at the very last minute (12pm), just so we could enjoy this amazing resort until the last second. We even indulged ourselves with a little room service for breakfast, just so we didn’t have to leave our beautiful room…and so we could take one last dip in our plunge pool.

We ordered a tipico breakfast, but this time in burrito form, and pancakes with local wild berries and dulce de leche. When our tray arrived, they also included a breadbasket with a mix of breads and pastries…and a whole kettle of café y leche!

When we finally got out of bed, we heard Macaws flying around the resort, so we grabbed our camera and binoculars and found a huge tree with SO many Macaws…we counted at least ten! These bright red birds are so vocal and even more beautiful.

Despite the very rainy weather we had yesterday and this morning, it didn’t stop us from enjoying the amenities and activities that our resort had to offer! When 11:30am rolled around, we knew we had to start packing up our things to check out of this lovely room (insert sad face emoji)…but where one adventure ends, the next begins…and Monteverde is next!

Leaving Punta Islita, we chose to backtrack and go through Samara to get on a paved road to Monteverde. We’ve realized throughout of trip that Google Maps may often provide the “quickest” or “shortest” route, but it’s not always the most ideal, nor safest for that matter. This short detour even allowed us to stop back at Roots Bakery to grab some savory treats for lunch on the road…we opted for a chicken empanada and beef+potato enchilada!

Our drive to Monteverde was nice, but once we got out of the Nicoya Peninsula…we started our climb up towards Monteverde…which sits on the continental divide over 4,000ft above sea level!

Once we got into town, we grabbed an early dinner at Sabor Tico and stopped at a local supermarket for some breakfast staples.

We’ll be staying at a local AirB&B this time around, so we plan on making our own tipico breakfast! We can’t wait to explore one of the most pristine cloud forest in the world tomorrow, so stay posted!
