We spent the morning in Crested Butte, CO with Alex and Haley to grab some local breakfast sandwiches at Izzy’s. There’s usually a 25-45 minute wait for breakfast, depending on what time of day you get there… Joey and I ordered the breakfast wrap and “the fletcher”…and these sandwiches were well worth the wait!
Our next stop was Mesa Verde National Park, but along the way we ran into our first car problem of the trip..UH OH! Turns out, my car isn’t programed for the high altitude, because when we stopped to get it checked, we found out that it wasn’t adapting to the change in oxygen. All was well, and on we went.
Mesa Verde National Park contains ancient Native American cliff dwellings. We stopped at many different outlooks that gave us views of these amazing structures and homes built into the cliffs…hard to believe how they built these places thousands of years ago!
After Mesa Verde, we headed for Monument Valley, where we would be staying at a campsite that is surrounded by gigantic rock formations. Because of our car issue, we were set back about an hour, which actually worked out because we probably wouldn’t have been able to take the scorching heat if we arrived at our campsite any earlier.
We got to our campsite just before 9PM, and Joey quickly found our spot and set up the tent. Our long day left us exhausted and excited for bed. We walked through the cool red desert sand to get to our campsite and tomorrow we’ll check out Four Corners National Monument, Canyonlands National Park, and end our night in Arches National Park, where we will be staying for the next two nights!! Keep you posted as we adventure through “the red planet!”
