We were extra cautious about waking up this morning because of recent bear activity in our campground (specifically a curious black bear roaming around near our campsite in the morning…at least it’s not a grizzle I guess…). Luckily, we didn’t run into any bears and safely left Yellowstone National Park around 7AM. As we drove out of the park, we saw more wildlife…this was the first time we saw two different animals SO close to us!
Our final destination today was Glacier National Park and it took us about 7 hours of driving to get here. We drove on the “Going-to-the-Sun” road, which is known as one of the most beautiful roads in America! These were EXACTLY the long and winding roads we were looking for! The views of the glacial lakes and into the open valleys were stunning.
We drove by numerous glaciers and glacial remains, including waterfalls down the mountain walls and into Lake St. Mary, which are called the Weeping Walls!
The drive led us past McDonald Creek, where we stopped to admire the turquoise blue water that glistened in the sun! There was even a spot to jump in and cool off!
A little farther down the road, we stopped at Avalanche Creek, where we hiked part of the Trail of the Cedars, and eventually walked off the path to dip our feet into the creek.
After taking a cold but refreshing dip, we headed towards Fish Creek campground where we will be staying for the next two nights.
We’re going to explore the park a bit more tomorrow, but we’re also planning on renting a motorboat (only $23!) to take out onto Lake McDonald for the day! A boat day in Glacier National Park…sounds like our kind of day!
