We woke up to another lovely buffet-style breakfast at our hotel and headed over to the nearby Ben Thanh Market to see the fresh food and shop for more souvenirs!
After some market shopping, we stopped into a bookstore at the Saigon Centre to get a local cookbook! After taking this recent Northern style cooking class, and now having this easy recipe cookbook, we plan on bring Vietnam back with us!
After book shopping for a bit, we walked around nearby Pasteur Street, around noontime. This entire trip we haven’t had much to drink in terms of alcohol, so we wanted to find a craft brewery…easier said than done in Southeast Asia. As we looked into things to do in Ho Chi Minh, we stumbled across a place called Pasteur Street Brewery! It was nestled down a narrow alleyway and up a flight of stairs, but that didn’t stop us from popping in for a flight of our own…and some fried pickles and okra…and a growler…and a t-shirt…and a bunch of free stickers. They were selling a pint with a t-shirt for less than $10 USD! Who could pass that up, especially two people who love supporting local microbreweries?!
After enjoying some quality beer, we passed by some old Vietnam War era warplanes, motorbikes, and artillery cannons. It was hard to tell if they were real or replicas, but they were really cool to see either way.
Once our little outing was complete, we went back to hotel and just napped like an old couple. Hey, those beers were delicious, but they were also strong!
After we napped for an hour or two, we woke up with the same craving…another banh mi sandwich from Banh Mi 37 Nguyen Trai (if you missed yesterday’s post, the red cart dons this name to signify location).
Joey picked up 3 sandwiches this time (I think he planned on having two to himself, but I insisted on splitting it!) and he surprised me with two more macaroons and an éclair from the same French bakery!
We have an early morning and wanted to have another movie night, so after dinner we just Netflixed and chilled again. Tomorrow morning we fly back to Thailand to see one of the, if not the, biggest Buddhist temple in the world, so stay posted!
