Waking up in a real bed was quite a luxury this morning. We’re staying with our high school friend Ariana in Arlington, VA, just outside of Washington DC. Our day was pretty open, and the only commitment we had was a 3PM IMAX showing of the National Parks in 3D at the Smithsonian Museum of Natural History on the National Mall. It’s also Joey’s first time touring around our nation’s capital, so we made sure to fit in as many tourist attractions and monuments as possible in the little time we had.

Three o’clock came around pretty quickly, and we found ourselves eager to get a glimpse of what lies ahead in our trip. The National Parks movie got us excited beyond belief for our upcoming stops in our road trip, and made us appreciate the beauty of our parks from a perspective that may never be topped. For those of you interested in our National Parks, their history, and the significance of land recognition, check it out…pretty sure it’s playing at most IMAX theaters across the nation, but only for 2016 in honor of the National Park Centennial!

After the IMAX, we decided to hang around the Smithsonian for a little and go check out the Hope Diamond…because it’s the biggest diamond in the world duh! We made our way through the crowd of people who seem to have been rotating along with the diamond necklace, snapped a few photos, and quickly ran away from the hectic crowd.

We headed out of the museum to go check out the north side of the White House, the only stop we hadn’t already made, and admired the historical brownstones that lined the streets of DC. They kind of reminded us of the Hamilton Heights area in Manhattan or Carroll Gardens in Brooklyn. After we appreciated the beauty of craft and architecture, we headed towards the Verizon Center (where the Washington Capitals and Wizards play) to meet back up with our friend. Joey spotted a place called Capital City Brewing Company, so we had to stop and try a flight of their local beers on tap.

Ari recommended Medium Rare in Cleveland Park, so of course we had to try it out! It’s an incredibly unique dining experience only found in DC. Their only offering is a prix fixe dinner that consists of unlimited bread, a spring salad, and two servings of incredible steak and fries… all for $20…but what was really amazing was their “secret sauce.” I put that s*** on everything! I would probably put this on everything I eat if I had access to it, so maybe it’s better that it stays a secret…

Dinner was great, but the company was even better. We needed to give our tired feet a break, so we checked in for the night to rest up for the big holiday. It’s forecasted to be a rainy 4th of July today, so hopefully the weather holds up!
