Summer 2019

This summer, we’re doing things a bit different. If you follow us on our travels (or looked at our tag name), you’d immediately recognize we usually travel with just the two of us. This summer we’re embarking on an adventure for five and (*enter pun here*) to Hawai’i. Don’t get nervous…we’re still focused on our travels and learning experiences they bring, we’re just being more conscious of sharing these experiences with the ones we love.

We’re going to Hawai’i for about two weeks, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to see multiple islands. Ideally we would be able to visit the 4 major islands, and some of the minor ones as well, but for a 2 weeks adventure, we think 2 islands will provide the perfect pace.

If it were just the two of us, we would probably have chosen Kauai and the Big Island (Hawai’i) to explore, but because we are traveling with family, we chose Kauai and Oahu. All 4 of the major islands have amazing things to offer. If we ended up choosing Kauai and the Big Island this time, we would have visited Oahu and Maui the next, and vise versa. Oahu and Kauai, though neighbors and separated by less than 100 miles, are incredibly unique islands with distinct features that make them both worth a visit (this is true of Maui and the Big Island as well).

We’re renting cars on both islands in order to maximize adventure and explore to the full potential. We’ll make it to all corners of both islands, as we plan to spend 5 days in Oahu and 8 days in Kauai. However, because we’re traveling with family, we also have to be more flexible with our planning and our itinerary (GASP!). We usually create a daily itinerary, but this time we’ve created a regional itinerary (don’t hate us…and feel free to reach out if you want something more personalized).

Days 1-5: Oahu “The Gathering Place”

It makes sense to start our adventure in Oahu, as it is known as “The Gathering Place” amongst its neighboring isles. Here we will meet the fam and begin our adventure! We arrive in HNL from New York City and our family is coming from South Florida. We plan to stay in Honolulu and use it as a venture point to see each side of the island. Depending on weather, we’ll make a daily journey out to see each corner of the island before we’re off to Kauai.

Days 6-13: Kauai “The Garden Isle”

We’re spending a little bit more time on this island, known as “The Garden Isle,” so we have a little bit more time to truly explore the island’s nature and beauty. We don’t want to give too much away, but we plan to explore the landscape of the Na Pali Coast by land, air, and sea. We’ll be posting out daily adventures on our blog, so make sure you stay posted!
